Available here the experiment outcomes

The project, completed at the end of last year, involved five European partners (Cézanne Software, Sopheon, Fordesi, CIRA, EPAL) for almost 3 years. We think that LORE could represent a very interesting “implementation case” as it foresaw two different end-user backgrounds, with different business cases and organizations. 30 deliverables, 5 milestones, successfully approved by the EC review team, and an application software prototype delivered to the users, form the main figures of the project. LORE is an effective integration between Human Capital Planning Systems and Linguistic Analysis Technologies inside a Competency driven Portal.

LORE starts from the consideration that traditionally, HR systems tackle the managing of expertise first by managing the experts themselves and then by 'attaching' each person to a formal list of skills and competencies. The emergence of Knowledge Management in the mid '90s recognised the traditional 'database' approach as inadequate and numerous projects tackled this 'yellow pages' issue, mostly with disappointing results.The point of failure is often the link between a person - the expert - and what he/she knows - the expertise.

LORE project delivered an application software prototype tested in two real end users environment, provided by the two industrial partners in the Consortium:

CIRA (Italian Aerospace Research Centre) is a not-for-profit research consortium, incorporated in 1984 in Capua (Caserta). ASI (Italian Space Agency) and CNR (National Research Council) hold the majority of the Company shares.

EPAL is the most import Portuguese Water Company, serving a region that includes 24 counties (including Lisbon) on the northern shore of the Tagus river.
